 RIO

 14 year old Imported Stallion

14.1 hh          GHRA Registered

Rio (aka Rio Grande or The Rio Stallion) is an absolutely stunning, imported stallion!  He IS the horse we searched for, for well over 2 years.  Our Perfect Boy!  When Jeff called and said he was here in Southern California and was available, we wasted no time in going to see him!  My jaw dropped when I saw him and we committed to him on the spot!  And that's after looking at well over 200 stallions both here and overseas!   Rio comes complete with incredible Gypsy Type, Color, Conformation, short, short back and an incredible shoulder.  He's up-headed and Balanced.  He's WIDE, has heavy, heavy BONE, a FABULOUS DISPOSITION, HAIR, and a Beautiful Head with large expressive eyes and an adorable moustache;-).  AND THE FEATHER!!!  At times his feather lays on the ground 5 to 6 inches, actually more, but I'm trying hard not to exaggerate!  He Moves like a Dream!  He is also broke to Drive and Ride.   As if that weren't enough, Rio is one of the sweetest horses alive and has an impeccable work ethic.  Right now he's teaching youngsters how to ride and how to take care of a horse.  Thank goodness he's also a very forgiving soul and puts up with some pretty interesting and inexperienced "handlers", while never taking advantag of even the most novice rider.  On Saturdays and Sundays he gives cart rides to young children and stands patiently while visitor's at the feed store perch thier kids up on him for photos.  I could go on and on, but I think you get the message.  Photos can't even begin to tell the story on this magnificent stallion.  One look in person and we think you'll agree!

We are Blessed.  A once in a lifetime True Fairy Tale Horse!

Our heartfelt thanks to Jeff and Christine for allowing us to purchase this once in a life time stallion!

STANDING AT STUD!  This PROVEN PRODUCER of HIGH QUALITY FOALS will stand to only a few outside mares in 2010.  Stud fee by Private Treaty.

If you are looking to breed to a Gypsy Horse that the Gypsies were proud to own, you owe it yourself to look seriously at Rio.  If you plan on showing your foals, you better take an even harder look at what's out there winning.  Although Rio likes to produce an array of colors including red and white and bay and white foals, the judges don't care if a horse carries "rare or unusual" color genes.  His offspring are WINNING and are SELLING well!   Rio's quality is timeless.

We have now shipped semen to Canada!  It took some doing, but with the help of Dr. Tramp (our wonderful "repro" vet and neighbor), we got it done!

Look at the feather!  Left photo coutesy of BFSGH.

NOTE :-)  I have owned, raised, trained and campaigned horses my entire life, including well known National, Regional and Class A Champion Arabian Horses.  RIO is one of the MOST STUNNING and Charismatic Horses I have ever had the pleasure to meet!  When he comes trotting towards me with feathers flying,  he still gives me goose-bumps.  He will leave a prepotent mark in your mind and certainly in the Gypsy Horse world!

      Just Out Grazing August '08

This stallion can grow crazy hair!  We figured his feather was laying on the grass spread out at about 5 - 6 inches!  As you can see (by his back hoof) it's just very short bermuda grass.  Mane growing back in nicely too!

This (upper) photo is of RIO at Appleby Fair while still in the UK.  Photo so very kindly and unexpectedly supplied by Loretta Rawlings.

Thank-You Loretta for this beautiful photo!!

Rio waiting patiently while Carey harnesses him.

RIO'S OFFSPRING PAGE COMING SOON!

Butterfly Butt :-)

NEW...Pedigree information!!  With the help of Sid Harker and grandson Simey we (actually they) have so far been able to trace Rio clear back to Ireland where he was conceived.  Rio's mother was bred to The Luke (Connors) Horse (by The Original Old Paddy Horse) before she was moved to Newcastle in North East England where Rio was born.  The Luke Horse's dam was by The Lob.  As of right now, we have no information on Rio's dam other than she was a black and white mare with a long mane and tail.  THANK-YOU Sid and Simey for working with us to help solve part of the mystery!  You guys were more than patient with my hundreds of questions over the past few months!

This is a photo we took the first time we met RIO.  Look at that Moustache!
