FIRES October 2007 Here we go again.... It was said that the fires in San Diego County in October 2004 were the "Fires of a Lifetime". I wonder what they will call these. They were worse. It was a Hellish week not to ever forget. It burned soooo close to our property, but we escaped it's wrath again. I have to tell you, I didn't think we'd come out of it with a house this time because the winds howled up to 103 mph picking up flames and putting them wherever they happened to land. It was sort of a firey Russian Roulette. They just wouldn't stop. It was so scary. Each day started with a reverse 911 call for a mandatory evacuation. We took turns resting in short shifts, while someone else kept an eye on the flames. We worked to evacuate (an unbelievable task with 300 animals) and had the girls and my parents packed up to leave. In the end, since we couldn't get all the animals, we decided to stay. You can't lock up animals and leave them to burn to death and I feel sad to know that some people did this unthinkable, shameful act. MORE photos to follow.
This picture is the "Caravan" getting ready to evacuate. And to think...I always griped about having too many trailers!!
This is our commercial building on our property. We moved all the bunnies in the "upper barn" down to this building! What a task!
This is the back door on our building. The 103 MPH winds tore the door apart!
